Dear Warwick Apprenticing Charities,
I would like to thank you for your continued support for young people living in CV34.
In 2024, I received funding to purchase a laptop for my studies in Spanish and German at St Hilda’s College, University of Oxford. I have now completed my second year and look forward to spending my year abroad in Lower Saxony as an English language assistant with the British Council.
My time at university has undeniably enriched me both academically and personally. I have studied in Oxford’s most beautiful libraries, made new friends and have participated in some of Oxford’s oldest traditions, including Matriculation and May Day celebrations.
I have also had the opportunity to carry out outreach work. I have toured my school (Aylesford School) around St Hilda’s College and worked on the UNIQ Summer School, a free programme aimed at state-school students ages 16-17 to increase aspirations to apply to further education.
I am also pleased to have received two academic awards during my time at Oxford. I received the Kathleen Chesney Memorial Prize for my dedication in German and also the LIDL Year Abroad Prize for my proposed project. My project is inspired by my participation in Warwick’s Eurocamp and will look at Warwick’s relationship with its twinned towns, particularly Verden in Germany. Through this project, I aim to examine the positive impacts of participating in foreign exchanges as a young person in shaping further education, careers and broader perspectives. I also hope to translate tourism materials for the respective towns.
Having this laptop has proved enormously useful to my studies and I am very grateful for the level of support for young people in CV34.
